Ritual

Many traditions dating back to thousands of years have lived with an innate embodied connection to sweating in a space with others in a way that is spiritually and physically cleansing. How this is done differs based upon the culture, yet there is a connection amongst many cultures to some type of spiritual element. In Finnish culture löyly is “the spirit of steam.” Each sauna has its own spirit with a unique essence that has been influenced through ways in which the sauna was created and used.

In many areas of life people get introduced to things and have no idea what to do. We will offer some guidelines with the recognition that our way is a way and not the only way. Our intention with our community silent saunas is to offer a place where people can retreat to for contemplation and purification.

Ceremonies and rituals all around the world and throughout different religions use the elements to serve significant/symbolic purpose.

The sauna encapsulates these elements of earth, air, fire, water. The significance and the power of these elements is to be interpreted by you.

1. Introduction: this is where you can greet the space, introduce yourself to the sauna and or/any of the elements, give thanks for the space it holds.

2. Set an intention: What brings you here? Are you looking for support in your life for something in particular? Is there something you wish to release or let go of? is there something you wish to cultivate deeper? Is there a question or a contemplation you have? Is there deeper insight you are looking to connect to? Is there something you are looking to invite in or make more space for? (Declaring and trusting you’ll get just what you need)

3. Invocation: once you know your intention, you can share it with which ever guiding force feels nearest and dearest to you. This can be God, Love, Great Mystery,  Jesus, Buddha, the power of the Elements, the directions, your intuition/ higher self.  Yan item

4. Surrender: surrender up your prayer or intention.. you can pour water on the rocks while imagining your prayer being sent up in the steam.  You can ask for help carrying the prayer out and for the awareness to receive the various ways it may be answered.

5. Close, acknowledge completion, and Give Thanks. We welcome only well intended prayers- meaning if there is a challenge whether it be a person, event, or thing, our minds have the ability to curse it or to bless it, this is a space where we come to bless (wish well) our challenges.
